Jamtli Living University (JLU) - combining knowledge from the past and present to shape a modern sustainable lifestyle

Jamtli Living University (JLU) is a new role, where Jamtli Museum becomes a protagonist in shaping our future. We bring together the local university, Gaaltije Indigenous Sámi group, businesses, municipalities and citizens to a dialogue where we are developing a new neighbourhood in Östersund called JLU. This approach combines knowledge from the past and present to shape a modern sustainable lifestyle, where people can live their normal lives, and be a part of a constant learning experience on sustainability.

To make radical positive changes in our environment we need to change our lifestyles. JLU offers an arena for interdisciplinary dialogue, for testing and innovation across sectors, integrating traditional methods from our outdoor museum with the latest research in sustainability. It is a place for learning by doing, bringing residents and institutions together.

JLU is a new way for us at Jamtli to relate to people, shifting from exhibition-making to becoming an equal partner to society, and participating in daily tasks that make a difference. Whether by restoring native crops with residents or developing new solutions, we are working together, shaping our perspectives and illustrating survival strategies to save mankind and our biological diversity.
